Just back from a long and rather lovely weekend in Iceland. Many fond memories including fantastic physical geography; great (but expensive) food; warm, engaging and happy people; the Blue Lagoon; Vikings 'til they were coming out of my ears (probably something to do with those (fictional) horned helmets); and a wonderful walking history tour around Reykjavik with our guide Erik. But goodness me, the first evening back at our "retreat" saw my first ever gin and tonic ... without ice! And I was in ICEland!! In February. In accommodation in the middle of a nature reserve about 10 miles out of town (Reykjavik) surrounded by nothing but snow and ice for miles around ... not an ice cube in sight.
