OK. They keep down the flies, aphids, and caterpillars which damage our food crops and gardens. But is that enough? Does it compensate for what they get up to in their spare time? I've lost count of the occasions, arms flailing with rolled newspaper gripped tightly in each hand, I've tried (and failed) to flatten - or at least get rid of - one of the horrid, airborne, stinging, black and yellow striped bastards, (with a particular gift for aimless meandering flight), from some room or other in my home. The only plus for me (and I must admit it's quite a big plus) is the entertainment value when my wife's around. Her loss of control, of both mind and body, is utterly complete.
