Murray's formula for success

Funny how so fast and dangerous a sport can be so dull to watch on TV (and, frankly, live too). I quite enjoy the first 2 or 3 minutes of a Formula One race, when there actually seems to be something resembling a race going on. But God, the next couple of hours or so! Not to mention the champagne nonsense on the podium at the end. If you do ever find yourself watching, you may be disappointed at the news the BBC will be taking over from ITV from the start of the 2009 season. That'll mean an end to all of those exciting interruptions, otherwise known as adverts.

I remember when I saw him on TV some years back, extolling the virtues of ITV taking over the rights from the BBC to show Formula One, thinking Murray Walker was an even bigger berk than I had originally thought. How were adverts going to aid the viewers' enjoyment? He must have known the downward spiral of dull racing into which the "sport" was plummeting. It was all about the adverts. Enjoy them while you can. Or - adverts or no adverts - just turn off after a couple of laps (like me).
